Following on from the success of the Blue Star, Stubai has developed the Mountain Star, which takes the same basic formula, but applies it to a slightly more technical axefor aspiring mountaineers rather than purely walkers. The result looks good too, with a polished head and a new smooth, slim but grippy rubber shaft for all round comfort in the hand. The head gets a more aggressive set of teeth than the Blue Star for biting into ice and it gives this axe the edge for my money, especially for those stepping into slightly more technical walking and basic mountaineering.
